The macrosystem also may have a profound effect on mental health and development. In particular, marginalized groups such as undocumented youth and families are particularly vulnerable to economic and political trends. This is certainly true in reference to the legislation and execution of laws associated with undocumented immigration.   In each book, immigrants must navigate not only the “old” and “new” worlds, but also the worlds of illness and health. When illness and immigration converge, the immigration narrative may take on the structure of one version or another of the illness story, turning the immigrant experience into a quest, as in Shteyngart’s Little.

Let’s go on to your books. The first one you’ve chosen has a great title: Bloody Foreigners by Robert Winder. He’s telling the history of British immigration, and through it we find out that even quintessentially British things like Marks & Spencers well, in short, Marks was an immigrant.   She added that current immigration policies contribute to a “broader climate that facilitates more experiences of discrimination,” which, in turn, could exacerbate mental health concerns. Sangalang concluded that the findings indicate that pre- and post-migration trauma among immigrants, and Latino immigrants in particular, is more common. Get this from a library!
